  1. Shakespeare in the Park will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, through Saturday, Aug. 10, and 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11., at Starr Jaycee Park in Royal Oak. The outdoor professional theatre event will feature The Merry Wives of Windsor and Much Ado About Nothing. Tickets are $8-$20.
  2. An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 1 to 6:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Our Lady of La Salette Catholic Church in Berkley.
  3. The ninth annual Green Cruise celebrating human-powered transit will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, in Ferndale. The event will include several bike rides, food, music, kids activities, free bike tune-ups and more. 
  4. Articipate in Berkley will hold a "Welcome Day" from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. The event will include an "all you can create" buffet of fun, easy art projects. Teachers will be on hand and information about upcoming classes will be provided.
  5. Peak viewing of the Perseid meteor shower will begin Sunday, Aug. 11. Stargazers could see upward of 60 meteorites flash per hour.
