Dream Cruise Snapshot: Bubble Foggers Add Touch of Whimsy

A Berkley resident who said he detests the classic car event nonetheless sets about helping others enjoy the day.

He's no fan of the Woodward Dream Cruise, but that didn't stop one Berkley resident from adding a touch of whimsy to the day.

Curious passers-by stopped early Saturday afternoon to inquire about the numerous black-and-orange Bubble Fogger machines attached to a web of extension cords in Don MacDonnell's front yard on Eaton, just west of Woodward Avenue.

"This injects fog into bubbles, and the wind carries 'em," he said, holding up a Bubble Fogger machine as it popped a series of fog-filled bubbles into the breeze. "Kids love 'em."

Depending on the wind, the bubbles can make it all the way to Woodward, MacDonnell said.

But don't be confused by his fun, foggy bubbles: MacDonnell said he finds the Dream Cruise to be a nuisance.

"I hate the Dream Cruise," he said. "You can't get around anywhere — you can't even get out to buy groceries."

Nonetheless, he opted to spend the day putting a smile on other people's faces.

"I wish I could do this in a car and drive down Woodward and have bubbles come out," MacDonnell said.
