The Berkley Bears football team may have won the "Fight Against Childhood Cancer" game Oct. 19, but the Royal Oak Ravens took the title of most-spirited in Patch's photo upload contest between the cross-Woodward Avenue rivals. Fans from both teams shared 1,053 pictures and videos of their school spirit and colors by the Oct. 21 deadline, with Royal Oak submitting 643 photos and one video and Berkley submitting 409 photos and 3 videos. The football teams will reignite their rivalry Friday during the "Fight Against Childhood Cancer" game, with a quirky new trophy on the line.
A tradition will be born Friday night when the Royal Oak Ravens take on the Berkley Bears during the "Fight Against Childhood Cancer" game: The winner will take home a quirky new trophy dubbed "The Curb." The prestigious chunk of cement will serve as the spoils when the squads reignite their cross-Woodward Avenue rivalry during the charity game. Royal Oak High School Athletic Coordinator Pam Moore, with the help of the Royal Oak Department of Public Service, secured the 30-pound piece of Woodward Avenue curb to serve as a trophy for the two teams, Ravens' Head Coach Ryan Irish said.
