Patch Picks: Keep the Children Busy During Spring Break

Activities and projects offer options for families during vacation.

Thirty-two short days ago, parents eagerly sent their children back to school after weathering midwinter break. Now, unless you’re headed south, 10 days of spring break are looming. Did we miss any? Let us know in the comments. 1. In the heart of downtown Clawson is D'Lazo Salon and Spa where you can indulge yourself in a manicure, facial, massage, waxing or even a satin body scrub. Patch Picks: Summer Camps

Every week we'll look to our readers to help us compile a list of things to do, places to go, restaurants to try and whatever else we come up with.

While the cold March weather makes summer seem far away, registration for many summer camps already is under way. So, we asked readers for suggestions on fun summer camps for kids. Here is the list we gathered: 1. Clawson: The Clawson Parks & Recreation Department will offer eight weeks of summer camp beginning June 20. Parents can up sign their kids for one-week sessions beginning April 1 and daily sessions beginning May 2. The camp runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and costs $80 a week or $20 a day. It  also offers before- and after-care beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m. Day camp kids go on one field trip a week to destinations such at the Detroit Science Center and the Detroit Zoo and participate in games, …

The National Education Association initiaed the program 13 years ago to encourage children and teens to expand their horizons by opening a book.  Here are this week's Patch Picks results!: Next week's list: camps. Patch Picks: Five Area Boutiques

This week we feature a variety of boutiques in Berkley, Clawson, Royal Oak and Ferndale.

1. Independently owned City Style in Berkley is a pleasant surprise for downtown shoppers. The boutique sells funky clothes, purses, shoes, jewelry and accessories, including the Made in Detroit line and Harveys bags. But, let's be honest, the shoes and boots are the main attraction – customers can even rent out the store for a shoe party with friends. Coupons are available online and discounts are given for birthdays. 2. The Room Downstairs: A Feminine Boutique in Berkley frequently updates its selection – which includes sweaters, tops, pants, skirts and more – with pieces fresh from New York, Los Angeles and even Israel. "We specialize in reasonably priced fashionable women's clothing, and feature the largest selection of skirts in the …

We'll look and ask about great local businesses, local or near-local destination spots, local services, local organizations, ways to spend a day off, and whatever else we can think of. We hope you'll find this list useful for you, your family, friends, and significant others. We'll look to compile the best of everything from Sunday brunch spots to summer camps to date night destinations to florists to parks and more. So, stay tuned and contribute to our lists! So, last week we asked about Valentine's date nights. Best places …
