Frugal Family: Dress for Success and Other Deals

The Council ReSale shop, formerly Council Thrift, in Berkley is planning a Dress for Success event 1-3 p.m. Sept. 13. This will be the fourth time the Jewish Vocational Services and the National Council of Jewish Women has put on the event, which offers job seekers free tips on interviews and resumes from career experts, plus extra discounts on interview attire and accessories.   Merchandise retail director Robert Lebow said he expects about 30 attendees. The event is open to people of all faiths, he said, and no registration is necessary. "This is a great event," Lebow said. Oddfellows Antiques has more to celebrate than Dream Cruise weekend – it is also marking its 10th anniversary during the last few weeks in August by having a blowout sale starting Saturday. A drawing will be held as well, co-manager Joan Walsh said, and entry forms were mailed to those on the Oddfellows' mailing list. Gov. Rick Snyder designated July 27 through Tuesday as Buy Michigan Week  and Yellow Door Art Market is celebrating with daily Michigan-made art giveaways. "We do realize that there are some products and services that do not come from Michigan," according to the Buy Michigan Now website. "(Pineapples and mountain-climbing expeditions leap to mind.)
