The tradition started in 1955 after an advertisement for Sears Roebuck & Co. misprinted a telephone number for a special "Santa hotline." A portion of food and beverage sales between 5 and 9 p.m. Monday at the Berkley bar and grill will be used to help put on the annual Holiday Lights Parade in December.
24 Seconds Bar & Grill in Berkley will host the third annual "Christmas in July" fundraiser Monday, with a portion of proceeds going to the Holiday Lights Parade committee. Parade committee member Cindy Coon told the Berkley City Council on Monday that 24 Seconds will donate 20 percent of the proceeds from food and beverage sales between 5 and 9 p.m. Monday to the committee. "We love 24," parade committee member Deb Canto said. "(Owner Bob Bronstein) always goes all out for us." She said the Christmas in July fundraiser also will feature entertainment and a visit from Santa. This year's Holiday Lights Parade will be held Dec. 1.
