Huntington Woods Pool Opens for the Season

With temps reaching 90 degrees, a full house is expected at the Huntington Woods Recreation Center this weekend.

With temperatures like these, who isn’t ready to hit the pool? Thankfully, after a week that’s seen temps soar through the 80s, the pool at the Huntington Woods Recreation Center is opening this weekend. The pool will open for the season at 11 a.m. Saturday, just in time for the holiday weekend, and it’s expected to draw a full crowd. “Typically, the Fourth of July is pretty darn busy, but I think this year Memorial Day will be just as busy,” said Mary Gustafson, Huntington Woods program coordinator and aquatic director. Huntington Woods to Raise Pool Rates

In a letter to City Manager Alex Allie, Waldmann also noted that residents who live in the Royal Oak portion of the city "will be charged an additional 25% and a $40 annual facility fee." Waldmann said the rates fall in the middle of those charged by other municipal pools in the area and are "significantly lower" than those of private clubs. Huntington Woods Program Coordinator/…

However, maintaining a pool requires brushing up on chemistry. Tom Bishop, co-owner of Pools & Spas A Go-Go in Berkley, said a majority of his customers have blow-up pools and offered advice on how to keep them clean. “You should check your pool’s chemical levels (chlorine, pH and alkalinity) at least twice a week with at-home testing strips,” Bishop said. He also encouraged pool owners to have a professional computer analysis — available at Pools & Spas A Go-Go — done at least once a month. The process works like this: Given that blow-up …
