How do you help your scholar stay motivated and focused during the school year?
In our last Moms Talk (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked whether you'd have back-to-school blues or be relieved when the kids returned to class. Here's what you had to say: This week, we'd like to hear how you help your student succeed. Do you have a strategy for long-term planning? When your kids head back to class next week, will it be a relief or will you miss having them around?
In our last Moms Talk (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked what you think about Sesame Street's recent decision not to heed requests to have Bert and Ernie, popular male roommates on the children's show, get married. While three of you recommended the column on Facebook, we didn't receive any responses. So, this week, we move on to a new question: How are you feeling about having your kids head back to school? Is it a relief? Will you miss them? A little bit of both? How will their return to school impact your family's schedule – especially if you have two working parents or a single parent? Stay-at-home parents, what will you do with all that extra time?

The popular children's show will not heed requests to have beloved characters Bert and Ernie get married: Is the program an appropriate avenue to discuss the issue of marriage – gay or otherwise – with kids?
Last week in Moms Talk (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked how you picked your kids' names. Your answers were fun, and luckily your choices came without regrets. Here's what you had to say: This week, we'd like to hear what you think about Sesame Street's recent decision not to heed requests to have Bert and Ernie, popular male roommates on the children's show, get married. "Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves," read a statement by the Sesame Street Workshop on Facebook. "Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets™ do), …

How did you go about choosing a moniker for you little one, and what were your concerns?
Last week in Moms Talk (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked how you plan ahead for the back-to-school spending blitz. Your children need fall clothes and new supplies and, of course, they want the latest gizmos. How do you balance their needs and wants without busting the budget? Apparently, it was still too soon to ask because we didn't receive a single response. So, we'll soon be featuring a series of back-to-school must-haves to help you get a leg up on the season. Trust us, no one wants to hold on to summer as much as we do, so we feel your pain. This week, we'd like to know: What method did you use to pick a baby name? Did you honor a relative? Did you pick one at random from the phone book? Or maybe you created your own…

The fast-food chain plans to add fruit to all Happy Meals in the fall and reduce the serving size of fries in the kids' boxes.
Last week in Moms Talk (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked how you keep your kids safe online. Here's what you had to say: On Tuesday, fast-food giant McDonald's announced that beginning in the fall, it will add apple slices and reduce the portion of French fries in its children's meal boxes. Do you think the change is a step in the right direction? Do you hold fast-food chains responsible for childhood obesity in the United States? What other changes would you like to see? Or, do you disagree with the change?

This week, we'd like to hear what limits you set on their computer use.
Last week in Moms Talk (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked when do you say yes to a pet and how do you teach your kids about the responsibilities that come with furry, scaly or feathered friend? Here's what you had to say: This week, we'd like to hear you sound off on how you keep your kids safe while they're online. What do you teach them about whom they friend on Facebook and which links they click? What limits do you set on their computer use?

So your kids are begging for a puppy or kitten, but you're worried about the expense and responsibility of a new family member. How do you decide what to do and which animal to choose?
Last week in Moms Talk (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked whether you agree with the Casey Anthony verdict. The 25-year-old Florida mother was found not guilty on a first-degree murder charge that could have led to the death penalty. The body of Anthony's 2-year-old daughter Caylee was found in 2008 near the family's home. Anthony, who did not report that her daughter was missing for more than a month and lied during an ensuing investigation, was found guilty on four counts of lying to investigators. She is scheduled to be released from custody Sunday. Here's what you had to say about the verdict: This week, we have a lighter conversation topic for you: How do you decide whether or not to bring a pet into your home? What …

Last week in Moms Talk (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked you to weigh in on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's new safety standards for cribs, which include banning the manufacture, sale and resale of traditional drop-side rail cribs. We didn't receive a single response, so we're guessing you're not anxious about the new rules. Just to play it safe, click here for tips on how to protect your baby if you decide to continue using your drop-side rail crib. Last week in Moms Talk (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked you whether cloth or disposable diapers work better and how you managed to save money and reduce waste when diapering your baby. Here's what you had to say: This week, we'd like to hear you weigh in on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's new safety standards for cribs, which include banning the manufacture, sale and resale of traditional drop-side rail cribs. Post a comment to share your ideas about which option is most affordable and convenient, as well as least wasteful.
Last week in Moms Talk (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked you how you manage to make a little "me time"? Here's what you had to say: Thanks, Sallie! That's great advice for all of us! This week, we'd like to hear what you think about the cloth-versus-disposable diapers debate. We know there are people on both sides who feel passionately, but there is no clear winner. Even the folks at the Sierra Club say neither option comes out on top for those seeking a greener way to diaper baby. So, this week, we'd like to hear what you think: Do cloth or disposable diapers work better? How have you managed to save money and reduce waste?

I feel a little sad this year, as my youngest will be starting kindergarten and I can't believe he's old enough to start elementary school. That time went by FAST! But more so, I am excited to see what he learns and how he will do. He is ready. And like Libby, I REALLY miss the routine of the school year. The kids do so much better with the structure a school day brings. And frankly, so do I!   more ›
