Find out about his long-term goals for the marching band program, the band's pre-game ritual, its performance of Korean pop star PSY's catchy dance tune 'Gangnam Style' and more.
Berkley High School band director Alan Posner isn't the type to toot his own horn, but he has a lot to be proud of since taking over the role during the 2011-2012 school year. The marching band has grown from 76 members in 2011 to 107 in 2012 and received a Division I ranking for the first time in school history Oct. 10 during the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Festival in Royal Oak. "I think the passion and energy for music at Berkley has always been here," Posner said. "Students, parents, administration and community members have always had a lot of respect and pride for the arts. For me, it was very easy to take this program to the next level because of this energy around the music department." Posner also serves as Norup …

Band program plans fundraisers at Berkley Days and more to replace aging equipment.
Things are going to get a little loud this fall as the Berkley High School Marching Band expands from 74 to more than 100 students. The rise this year has a lot to do with the enthusiasm that Posner’s brought, and also because students have had opportunities to reach their personal best at solo and ensemble competitions this year, including students such as Ryan Levy, Mitchell Hart and Zachary Lask, whose percussion ensemble …

A halftime show preview Friday at Hurley Field featured classic hits by glam rockers KISS.
The Berkley High School marching band rocked out Friday at Hurley Field with a preview performance of this year's football game halftime show, featuring classic tunes by glam rockers KISS. Senior drum major Nico Suarez got the crowd pumped up by kicking off with the national anthem and the BHS fight song. Then, announcer Gordy Oliva introduced the heart of the show — a series of KISS selections. Junior drum major Lim-Lim Kobe led a spirited rendition of "Rock and Roll All Nite" before the band mellowed out with the '70s ballad "Beth" and then burst into another KISS favorite, "Detroit Rock City." During the preview, BHS marching band members and supporters sported black KISS T-shirts, which Oliva said will be available for sale during …
