Men's Club Presents $68,808 Check to Huntington Woods City Commission

The group raised and donated the funds to help cover the cost of activities throughout the city, including $60,000 from the 2012 auction for tree trimming.

The Huntington Woods Men's Club presented the City Commission with a $68,808 check Tuesday night at City Hall. Men's Club President Scott Kube delivered the oversize ceremonial check – actually made out for $68,808.11 – to Mayor Ronald Gillham. The service organization raised and donated the funds to cover the cost of a variety of activities throughout the city, including the following. "That just reminds you of the largess of the Men's Club and the people of Huntington Woods," Gillham said.

Boy Scouts Get Real-Life Civics Lesson

Seven members of Huntington Woods Troop 1292 who are working to earn their Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge attended the City Commission meeting Tuesday.

Seven members of Huntington Woods Boy Scout Troop 1292 got a first-hand look at local government Tuesday night when they attended the City Commission meeting at City Hall. The boys, accompanied by troop leader Dave Enerson, were working to earn their Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge. "I didn't know what to expect," Michael Smith said of the meeting. "It was down-in-the-street level. It was very down to earth and personal." The boys listened as the City Commission discussed fiscal matters, ordinances and procedural matters and each got to shake Mayor Ronald Gillham's hand at the end of the meeting.

City Commission to Receive Audit, Consider Road Work Agreement With Oak Park

The commission will gather at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Woods Gallery inside the Huntington Woods Public Library to hear from the city's auditors and again at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall for its regularly scheduled meeting.

The Huntington Woods City Commission will meet twice Tuesday, once to receive the city's annual audit and again to conduct its regularly scheduled meeting. The commission will gather first at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Woods Gallery inside the Huntington Woods Public Library to receive its annual audit from auditors with Post, Symthe, Lutz & Ziel. Huntington Woods City Commissioners Paid With Coins

The civil servants, who make $1 annually, each received coins bearing the likenesses of past presidents minted in the years they were due to be paid, which included 2008 through 2011.

Huntington Woods City Commissioners received their pay for the past several years Tuesday night at City Hall in the form of $1 coins. The playful payday came courtesy of Finance Director Tony Lehmann, who was reminded in a tongue-in-cheek memo from Commissioner Bob Paul that the group was due for compensation. Commissioners in Huntington Woods are paid $1 per year to serve the city. Lehmann provided each commissioner with a coin minted in the years they were due to be paid, which ranged from 2008 through 2011. The coins bore the likenesses of United States presidents Andrew Jackson, William Harrison, Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant. "You know what I say, don't you? Bob Ficano, eat your heart out," Commissioner Jules Olsman quipped. …

I'm a little surprised 64% said "No" in the poll. It's only federal holidays or the day right before and after. Personally, I'm generally against cities being allowed to take a State law and change it to be more restrictive in their area only.   more ›
