Nominations for Citizen of the Year and other categories due to the Civic Award Committee by May 31.
The city of Huntington Woods needs your help as it continues its tradition of recognizing citizens for their contributions to the community. Nominations are currently being sought for deserving residents in the following categories, according to the city's spring newsletter: Nomination forms are available at all city offices. Residents are asked to send in the name, the award category and include the reasons for their nomination by May 31 to:

A variety of eight-week spring classes are available for preschoolers, youth and adults.
Spring session classes offered by Huntington Woods Parks and Recreation start Monday, April 15. A variety of eight-week classes are being offered for preschoolers, children and adults. You can view the full directory of classes at the city's spring newsletter. Preschool classes include Kindermusik, Toddler and Me yoga and ballet/tap, and offerings for youth include hip hop dance, pottery and yoga. Adult classes are offered in Tai Chi, Zumba Toning, Mindfulness, Karate and more. To register for a class, visit the recreation center at 26325 Scotia Road or call 248- 541-3030 for more information. Crews are close to finishing underground utility work, storm lines and water mains.
It was another successful week of work for the Coolidge Highway construction crew in Huntington Woods, project manager Larry Harworth said Tuesday. “It will only be four weeks on Thursday that we started,” he said. “So we have come a long way in a short time.” Harworth said crews working on the northbound side of the road are about to complete the underground utility work from Lincoln to 10 Mile in a week and a week and a half. That work includes finishing the storm lines and installing the new water mains. Once the underground utility work is done on that stretch of road, Harworth said they will begin the road building phase, which includes digging out the old road, replacing it with stone, adding new water drain structures and then …

Sellers get creative while hot ticket items such as children toys and Disney costumes sell quickly at the citywide sale during a day of heavy customer traffic.
Cars lined the streets of Huntington Woods’ neighborhoods Friday for the first day of the city’s annual garage sale that runs through the weekend. “Traffic has been really brisk today,” said Huntington Woods homeowner Jules Sipes who sold most of her sought-after children toys, Disney costumes and CDs before 1 p.m. “The best stuff went quickly.” After participating in the event almost every year, Sipes is an expert at selling her goods and attracting traffic. Her strategies include bundling children toys together in groups like kitchen, complete with plastic groceries, dishware and appliances, to sell them for a higher price than they would by themselves and keeping her solitary children’s item below the average price for the neighborhood…

Saturday's popular fundraiser/social event has sold out for the second year, which helps boost its 2012 capital improvement donation to help maintain the city's character.
The notion of civic pride seems like an antiquated luxury in America today, unless of course you happen to live in a town like Huntington Woods — where July’s Independence Day parade could only be eclipsed in popularity by this Saturday’s Men’s Club Service Auction. The Men’s Club Auction, as it’s referred to in “the Woods,” marks its 31st year on Saturday and, as a testament to its draw, has sold out for the second straight year. The annual fundraiser regularly draws several hundred attendees, with a majority of the proceeds donated to the city for capital improvements.
