Local Girl Scouts spread some holiday cheer recently during a visit to Oxford Towers in Berkley. Troop members from Rogers Elementary School sang Christmas carols and shared cookies and juice with dozens of seniors who live in the high-rise apartment building. The girls sported festive Santa hats and the residents wore smiles. Troop leader Tracy Shanley snapped photos during the event and shared them in Huntington Woods-Berkley Pics & Clips so the community could share in the fun!

Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan celebrates its 100th birthday with a video competition.
Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) will celebrate its 100th birthday on Monday by inviting Metro Detroit Girl Scouts — past and present — to join the party and share their best Girl Scout memories on Facebook. The top three most popular video submissions will win a year supply of Girl Scout cookies, two tickets to GSSEM’s annual Cookie gala, which is a gourmet Girl Scout cookie recipe competition, or a Girl Scouts 100th anniversary prize pack. “If you did an awesome service project with your troop, or if you were a top cookie seller in your day, or have a special Girl Scout camping memory, we want to hear about it. Members of Rogers Elementary School Troop 41775 make fleece-tie blankets and collect crayons for patients at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.
While many folks headed home or out to dinner after the Hometown Holiday Lights Parade in Berkley this weekend, Girl Scouts from Rogers Elementary School put their holiday spirit to use by doing a good deed. Fourteen members of Troop 41775, along with parents and grandparents, bundled off to the Huntington Woods Recreation Center on Saturday night after walking in the parade to create fleece-tie blankets for patients at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.
