Hungry? Head to Detroit for Food Trucks, Restaurant Week Starting Today

Familiar food trucks to rally in New Center for Dine & Drive in the D.

If you work in downtown Detroit or don't mind the quick trip down Woodward, our popular food trucks are trekking down to the New Center Area for Dine & Drive in the D today. It's Detroit's first food truck rally and it starts at 11 a.m. and runs until 8 p.m. with 12 participating vendors. Featured food trucks include Treat Dreams of Ferndale, Royal Oak-based Jacques’ Tacos, El Guapo (Detroit), Chow Catering (Madison Heights), Frank’s Anatra (Bingham Farms), Ned’s Travel Burger (Birmingham), Taco Mama, The People’s Pierogi Collective, Concrete Cuisine, Cheese Dream, Debajo del Sol and the Cheese Wizard. The Truck Stops Here: Mobile Food Vendors Come to Royal Oak Farmers Market

Mobile food vendors will serve up their best fare this evening in first 'Street Eats Wednesday' event.

Mobile food vendors will growl into the Royal Oak Farmers Market tonight, where as many as six 26-foot bumper-to-bumper trucks can fit comfortably inside the confines of the market according to market manager Shelly Mazur. The event, "Street Eats Wednesday," is sponsored by the newly formed Michigan Mobile Food Vendors Association. So far, organizers have lined up five trucks, a food cart and a popular local band, the Reefermen. Dan Gearig, 36, will serve up eats from El Guapo: Fresh Mexican Grill. The chef said the rogue street food movement is about culture and freedom — not to mention the inability to come up with $100,000 to start a traditional restaurant. I went and it was way too overcrowded. Lines looked to be an hour long for each truck. Chow Catering had the most appealing menu. Wish I could of tried them all.   more ›
