How Many Drinks Will Get You A DUI? (Chart)

If you insist on driving after a few drinks, here's what you should know about how alcohol affects your system and your criminal record.

Do you know how many drinks you can have before you're in danger of getting a drunken driving violation?  This year in Metro Detroit, there have been some notable car accidents caused by drunken driving, and many other people pulled over while driving drunk. Patch wants you to know when enough is enough as you head out to celebrate the new year. When police pull drivers over for suspected drunken driving, officers ask them to perform field sobriety tests and to take a breath test to measure Blood Alcohol Content. A BAC test measures the percentage of alcohol present in a person's bloodstream. Michigan's legal limit is 0.08. 'Super Drunk' Driving Ordinance Lets Huntington Woods Crack Down

The city has adopted a new ordinance that allows for local enforcement of the highest penalties possible for convicted drunken drivers with excessively high blood alcohol levels.

Huntington Woods has adopted an ordinance that allows for local prosecution of "super drunk" drivers. Michigan’s recently enacted “super drunk” law boosted penalties for people convicted of driving with blood alcohol content (BAC) levels far surpassing the .08 legal limit. Mayor Ronald Gillham said that by approving the new ordinance to locally incorporate the law, Huntington Woods can impose the stricter penalties on a citywide level. “It’s a matter of being able to put a new state law onto our books so we can enforce it,” he explained at the recent City Commission meeting. Report: Speeding Driver Stopped in Huntington Woods was Drunk

A man who was speeding on I-696 and pulled over in Huntington Woods was arrested on a charge of operating while intoxicated, a Huntington Woods Public Safety Department stated. At about 11:30 p.m. March 15, a marked Huntington Woods patrol car observed a Cadillac CTS sedan traveling westbound on the freeway at 99 mph according to a radar reading, a Huntington Woods Public Safety report stated. The Cadillac blew past the patrol car, which was parked along the embankment, and never reduced speed. The officer followed the suspect vehicle, which exited at Coolidge and pulled over at the corner of Coolidge and Victoria. The officer stated in his report that upon contact with the driver there was a strong smell of alcohol and the driver’s eyes …

Highlights from reports from the Berkley Public Safety Department for March 8-16: March 11: An officer patroling the area around Henley and 11 Mile Road noticed the smell of smoke in the air around 4:30 p.m. The officer located the source, which he described in his report as a campfire being made behind a commercial building by a man later identified as a 25-year-old homeless man; the man said he was trying to keep warm. The officer found narcotics paraphernalia on the man and arrested him. March 8: Police were called to the Silver Tower convenience store on the 27000 block of Woodward in Berkley after a man reportedly stole a bag of returnable bottles. The suspect, a 35-year-old man, was pulled over in his car shortly after police were …

Police Blotter: Man Flees Accident Scene; Woman Hits Tree; Wallet Taken

Following are highlights from reports from the Public Safety Departments in Berkley and Huntington Woods since Jan. 19: A 911 caller reported to the Berkley Public Safety Department at 12:24 a.m. Jan. 21 that a driver hit a vehicle parked in front of their home in the 3750 block of Kenmore and fled the scene. The vehicle that was hit was legally parked and a relative of the owner was able to follow the suspect long enough to obtain a license plate number, according to a public safety report. A neighbor reported the fleeing driver speeding west on Webster near Greenfield, but officers were not able to locate him, according to the report.
