The Berkley restaurant puts a twist on morning fare at reasonable prices.
Yours Truly stopped by Crispelli's Bakery & Pizzeria in Berkley last week to try out the restaurant's new breakfast offerings and left with a full belly and happy taste buds. Crispelli's puts an interesting twist on morning fare, serving three types of calzones (feta, spinach and tomato; three-meat and egg; corned beef and potatoes), eggs gratin and a smoked salmon plate, among other offerings. French toast, Belgian waffles, eggs gratin, bacon, smoked salmon, pastries and more are now available at the Berkley restaurant seven mornings a week.
Crispelli's Bakery & Pizzeria in Berkley – known for its gourmet pizzas and popular patios – has added a new temptation: breakfast. The Woodward Avenue restaurant recently began serving the morning meal, in addition to lunch and dinner, and has received a positive response, manager Kelly Willson said. Detroit News restaurant critic Molly Abraham says new Berkley restaurant is a winner.
Crispelli's Bakery and Pizzeria was a hit even before it officially opened its doors Feb. 28, with local residents eager to try out the Italian-themed menu at Berkley's newest restaurant. The parking lot of the renovated Denny's space has been packed since with rave reviews and delicious smells wafting out the doors. Berkley's newest restaurant gives the corner of 12 Mile and Woodward a makeover.
What's a crispelli? It's a deliciously sinful Italian bakery treat, similar to a fritter. In Berkley, however, the word has a whole new meaning now with Crispelli's Bakery Pizzeria officially opening its doors this week. It's the newest eatery in town, and judging by the comments of patrons, destined for success. "The pizza here is really, really good – it has a very authentic taste. The new Berkley eatery plans its grand opening for Tuesday.
Berkley's newest and eagerly anticipated restaurant, Crispelli's Bakery and Pizzeria, is scheduled to open to the public for dinner on Tuesday. Crispelli's will feature a menu with a wide-range of from-scratch selections. Items including stone-oven pizzas, salads to order, deli sandwiches, entrees ranging from chicken to fish and pasta to beef, in-house baked breads and baked pastries. The restaurant is located at 28939 Woodward, on the southwest corner of 12 Mile at Berkley Square. Crispelli's is still accepting applications for help and those interested should visit the restaurant's website.

Diners won't have to wait much longer for the eagerly anticipated opening of Crispelli's restaurant in Berkley: The location is tentatively expected to open Feb. 28 and hiring is under way, developer Glen Willson said Friday. The Woodward Avenue restaurant – which will include a stone pizza oven, an in-house bakery, retail space, a deli bar and two outdoor patios – is nearing completion and looking for staff members, he said. "We have all our approvals from the Board of Health and Liquor Control," Willson said Friday. "Our final inspection by the city will be next week and we don't expect any problems."
