Berkley Football Player Veldo Funwie Signs With Walsh University

Berkley High School varsity football player Veldo Funwie recently signed his National Letter of Intent to play with Walsh University in North Canton, OH. Crashed Car Reminds Berkley Students to be Safe During Prom Week

The totaled Ford Focus outside Berkley High School warns juniors and seniors, who celebrate prom Thursday at the Lafayette Grande Banquet Facility in Pontiac, about the dangers of distracted driving.

The shattered and crumpled car parked outside Berkley High School is a stark reminder for students during prom week that distracted driving can have devastating consequences. The school's Students Against Destructive Decisions chapter hopes the totaled Ford Focus will inspire BHS juniors and seniors to be safe when they celebrate prom Thursday, May 16, at the Lafayette Grande Banquet Facility in Pontiac. Newsweek Ranks Berkley High School as No. 594 in the Nation

It was No. 22 among 82 schools in Michigan that made the magazine's 2013 America's Best High Schools list.

Berkley High School was ranked at No. 594 in the United States and No. 22 among 82 schools in Michigan that made the magazine's 2013 America's Best High Schools list. The honor marks the sixth consecutive year BHS made the list. Should Schools Stop Requiring Foreign Language Classes?

Currently, students in the Berkley School District are required to take at least two years of foreign language classes.

The House Education Committee, hoping to free up more options for students when it comes to high school electives, approved two bills last week in Lansing that would eliminate the foreign language requirement for graduation. The proposal aims to give students not headed to college more vocational options in school by eliminating the two-year foreign language requirement, but the Michigan Department of Education opposes the bill, according to The Detroit News. Berkley Educator to be Honored as Oakland County Teacher of the Year

Angela Church is among 58 teachers from 22 local school districts who will be recognized for their contributions in the classroom during a ceremony Thursday at the Oakland Schools campus in Waterford.

Oakland Schools will honor Berkley High School educator Angela Church on Thursday during the 26th annual Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards in Waterford. The 37-year-old Berkley resident, who was named top high school teacher in the county, is among 58 nominees from 22 local school districts who will be recognized during National Teacher Appreciation Week for their contributions in the classroom. 'My Name is Anne Frank' Brings History to Life in Berkley

Berkley High School orchestra and a cappella choir students receive a standing ovation Tuesday evening for their world premiere performance of the cantata.

A thunderous standing ovation rewarded Berkley High School orchestra and a cappella choir students Tuesday evening for their world premiere performance of "My Name is Anne Frank: A Cantata." Composer Volker Blumenthaler and lyricist Alexander Gruber, both from Germany, joined Holocaust survivors, parents and officials representing Berkley and Huntington Woods in the audience at Berkley High School's packed auditorium. The cantata kicked off a series of events the Holocaust Memorial Center Zekelman Family Campus in Farmington Hills will hold to celebrate its acquisition of one of 11 saplings from the chestnut tree that stood outside Anne Frank's window in Amsterdam and gave her hope as she hid during World War II. Berkley Students to Perform World Premiere of Cantata Based Anne Frank's Life

Composer Volker Blumenthaler and lyricist Alexander Gruber will visit from Germany to speak about their inspiration and hear "My Name is Anne Frank" performed in its entirety for the first time May 7 at Berkley High School.

The Berkley School District and Holocaust Memorial Center Zekelman Family Campus in Farmington Hills are proud to announce that the Berkley High School orchestra and choir will perform the American premiere of My Name is Anne Frank, a cantata written in commemoration of the life of Anne Frank, on May 7. Starting at 7 p.m. at the BHS Auditorium located at 2325 Catalpa, the performance is the world premiere of the composer Volker Blumenthaler's complete and original orchestration. The program features solos by Hazzan Daniel Gross (of Adat Shalom Synagogue) and Cantor Penny Steyer (of Temple Shir Shalom). Berkley Football Player Adam Kopitz Signs With Concordia University Chicago

"I'm ready to play. I'm ready to compete with others – bigger, badder people out there. I'm just ready to take 'em down one by one," says the senior, who signed Monday as a corner back with the Division III school.

Berkley High School varsity football player Adam Kopitz on Monday signed his National Letter of Intent to play with Concordia University Chicago. The senior will play corner back for the Division III school under coach Randy Awrey and said he plans to study sports management. Berkley High School varsity baseball player Sean Calender on Monday signed his National Letter of Intent to play with Saginaw Valley State University. The senior was signed as pitcher with the Division 2 school in University Center, MI, located between Saginaw and Bay City, and will play for coach Walt Head.
