The Detroit Tigers face elimination today in Game 4 of the World Series, beginning at 8:07 p.m. The San Francisco Giants hold a 3-0 edge in the best-of-seven series heading into today's game. Wednesday Highlights: Lahser, Andover Baseball Battle at Comerica Park

The Knights win city rivalry game 6-1 on the big stage; girls lacrosse playoff results; Seaholm soccer wins final regular season game.

* home team in all CAPS Lahser over Andover, 6-1 (at Comerica Park) Bloomfield Hills Lahser enjoyed playing on the big stage Wednesday afternoon at Comerica Park against city-rival Andover. Knights starter Neal Krentz shut down the Barons' powerful lineup to give his team a 6-1 win. With the teams scoreless at the end of the second inning, Lahser got on the board first with two runs in the top of the third. Steven Terryn and Charlie Dauch reached base with a pair of hits and scored on an error. The Knights pushed their lead to 6-0 in the top of the fifth inning with four runs. Berkley Baseball Bringing Back Cancer Benefit Game

The Bears host Troy on Friday night for charity game benefiting Beaumont's Sharing & Caring program.

The Berkley High School varsity baseball team is hoping to throw a strike against cancer Friday night by bringing back its Cancer Benefit Game Night. After a year off, Bears second-year coach Jordan Gruppen and the team wanted to bring back the annual charity game started by former coach Jim Ellis. “We are continuing the tradition here at Berkley High,” Gruppen said. “Coach Ellis ran it for a couple years. When I took over last year we didn't have one and we decided to bring it back this year. We do it each year in girls basketball also.” This year’s game will be played at Pop Lewis Field against Troy, coach Ellis’ current team, at 7 p.m. It will be a nonleague game for the teams. Friday Highlights: Seaholm Baseball Beats Up On Berkley

The Maples beat the Bears in five innings; full week of highlights from around Oakland County.

* home team in all CAPS Seaholm over BERKLEY, 14-3 (Five Innings) Spencer Eick and Josh Leitman were on fire for Birmingham Seaholm on Friday, combining for seven RBI in the Maples' 14-3 five-inning mercy-rule win over Berkley. Eick finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs. Leitman was also 3-for-4 with two extra base hits and three RBI. Tommy Scheidt hit a homerun. The Bears actually had an early 3-1 after the first inning, but Seaholm came roaring back with four runs in the third and fourth. Michael Levitsky was the winning pitcher giving up three runs, two earned, over five innings. He gave up six hits and two walks while striking out three. Berkley Sports Wrap: Baseball, Girls Soccer Undefeated; Boys Golf Beats Harrison

The Berkley Bears dominated opponents in baseball and girls soccer this past week as both teams remained undefeated as of Friday night, while the boys golf team squeaked by Farmington Harrison. Following is a roundup of Berkley sports from our weekly Sports Highlights column.  Berkley High School stayed undefeated Friday with a 3-1 win at home over Waterford Mott. Karsyn Baker scored twice and the Bears leading scorer Stephanie Miller added another. Julie Shields had four saves in the win. Berkley improved to 7-0-2 on the season. Berkley squeaked by Farmington Harrison at the Detroit Golf Club on Wednesday, 181-171. At the par 34 course, a strong team effort propelled the Bears to a win. Friday Highlights: Lahser Baseball Wins Pitching Duel with Troy

Berkley soccer wins, Troy lacrosse beats Walled Lake Northern 13-6.

* home team in all CAPS Bloomfield Hills Lahser over TROY, 2-1 Charlie Dauch was Charlie clutch Friday night for the Bloomfield Hills Lahser High School varsity baseball team. In the fifth inning, Zach Tornow led off the inning with a hit. Dauch came to the plate and belted an RBI double to break a 1-1 tie. Reliever Neal Krentz pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh to secure the win. Krentz closed down a Colts rally in the fifth by forcing a groundout and getting a strikeout. He also had an RBI double in the top of the first. Krentz combined with starter Patrick Monahan and Jack Corbell to limit Troy to only three hits in the game. A New York Times article explores the era of the $250 baseball bat. How much are you paying for fees and equipment?

Have you bought a baseball glove for your Little League player lately? Did you pay more than $100 for it? How about a $250 bat? A New York Times story headlined "Big Price Tags Attached to Even the Littlest Leagues," looks at the big business of equipping youngsters for participation in youth baseball and softball leagues, quoting those costs and more. "A batting helmet protects tiny heads for $39.99," the Times reports. "A pair of Nike Jordan Black Cat cleats will make your child fast and fashionable at $51.99 until he or she outgrows them." Friday Highlights: Royal Oak Baseball Wins Pitchers’ Duel

The Ravens win 2-0 game over Troy on Friday in the rain; Berkley tennis beats Harrison 5-3; Troy boys lacrosse wins easy over Avondale.

* home team in all CAPS Royal Oak over TROY, 2-0 A little bit of rain wasn’t going to slow down Royal Oak starting pitcher Dominic Valente. Valente went the distance in a 2-0 win over the Troy High School varsity baseball team on Friday in an Oakland Activities Association Blue division game. The senior only allowed three-hits over seven shutout innings and finished the game with 10 strikeouts. Rain started coming down in the fifth inning, but the inclement weather didn’t spoil what was a terrific pitchers’ duel between Valente and Colts starter Michael Thomas. “The last two innings were difficult,” Valente said of the conditions. “I couldn’t land at all and it was tough to throw strikes with my curve ball.” Valente walked Matt Oppenlander…

Berkley Bears Baseball Beats Blue Jays, 11-5

Ian Kobernick and Taylor Morrissey help lead Berkley to 5-0 start to the season.

Berkley doubled up Southfield on Wednesday night, beating the Blue Jays 11-5. Coming off a big game Tuesday, Ian Kobernick was at it again for the Bears against the Blue Jays. He was 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a double. He also was the winning pitcher. Kobernick allowed four runs and struck out four over six innings. Taylor Morrissey also had a big night. He hit a two-run homerun and finished the night 3-for-5 with three RBIs.  Dugan Fernandez was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks. Berkley High School improved to 5-0 on the season with the win.
