Radio system will allow the agencies to communicate directly with each other and coordinate responses to cross-border emergencies.
Officials are hoping to boost safety for Oakland County and Detroit residents with an addition to the county's OakWIN interoperable radio system. The system will now use data from Detroit to make a communication link between all Oakland County and Detroit police, fire and EMS radios, according to a recent Oakland County press release. Using OakWIN, the public safety agencies will be able to communicate directly with each other and coordinate responses to cross-border emergencies. A woman was physically unharmed but her purse was taken by a man wearing a dark, hooded shirt early Thursday outside the Blarney Stone Pub.
The Berkley Public Safety Department is investigating an armed robbery early Thursday morning outside the Blarney Stone Pub. The victim was physically unharmed but her purse was taken by a man wearing a dark, hooded shirt, BPS Detective Sgt. Michael Crum said Friday. "(The suspect was) parked on Princeton around 1 a.m.," he said. "If anybody saw anything suspicious, they should contact us." Crum could not immediately release further details because of the ongoing investigation. Manager Bo Burton said he can't recall a similar incident since he began working at the Blarney Stone in 1995. Consumers Energy crews responded to the scene on Coolidge Highway, south of 13 Mile Road, on Friday morning.
3:30 p.m.: Gas is back on along Coolidge Road as of 3:30 p.m. A total of 29 customers were affected. Consumers Energy was able to perform relights of appliances in all but six of those homes, according to Consumers Energy representative Debra Dodd. 2:30 p.m.: "Gas is off and 32 homes will be without gas service until later this evening when repairs are complete," reports Consumers Energy representative Debra Dodd. I’m talking about motorcycles. I’m going to ask everyone to remember to be vigilant and look more than once for motorcycles. A few seconds of safe driving techniques could save everyone from years of heartache and pain. That being said, motorcycle operators and their passengers also have a responsibility for the safe operation of a motorcycle. Drivers have you done your equipment safety check? Is everything working? The Berkley Public Safety Department supplied the following information.
A resident in the 2160 block of Gardner reported that at approximately 9:45 p.m. April 4 she found her Virgin Mary statue toppled onto its side with the head broken off. The woman reported hearing a noise on her porch at approximately 9:30 p.m., but said she didn't see anyone, according to a Berkley Public Safety Department report. There is no known suspect in the case. Residents or business owners who have information to report or who notice something unusual in their neighborhood can call the Berkley Public Safety Department at 248-658-3380 or the Huntington Woods Public Safety Department at 248-541-1180. Public Safety officials encourage residents and business owners to keep their doors and windows secured at all times.

Huntington Woods Public Safety to participate in the national take-back day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27.
The Drug Enforcement Administration has scheduled a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day for Saturday, April 27. Local police departments, including the Huntington Woods Public Safety Department, will take back unwanted or unused prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. "This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications," a post on the Huntington Woods city web site states.
