Summer Children's Programming

Research shows that kids and teens can lose as much as 2 months of reading achievement during the summer months unless they read, read, read! Through the Collaborative Summer Library Program, the Huntington Woods Library is providing children the opportunity to grow their skills this summer while celebrating the theme “Dig into Reading.” Check out our many learning opportunities at the library this summer and sign up online today! Thursday, July 11: Skies of Ancient Egypt @ 6:30 PM (up to age 8), 7:30 PM (age 9 and up)

4500 years ago, the night sky had all the same stars as we see today, but was viewed by the ancients very differently. Why? Because their basic beliefs were very different! Travel back to ancient Egypt with us and observe what those people in a far-away and mysterious land saw in the heavens. Learn how the ancient pharaohs (who ruled as 'gods') held the people's destiny in their hands and why the sky held so much power for them as well as their future!

Monday, July 22 @ 1 PM: “The Three Wishes” Marionette Show

Martin and Martha are granted three magical wishes. Does Martin wish for gold? No. A castle? No. He wishes for sausage, of course, and hilarity ensues. Audience participation brings this amazing marionette show to life!

 

Monday, July 29 @ 1 PM: Paleo Joe

Do you LOVE dinosaurs, fossils and rocks? Dig into reading with Paleo Joe when he brings his amazing teeth, skulls and fossils from the age of dinosaurs to explore. See his artifacts up close and personal then check out a book about paleontology!

 

Friday, August 2 @ 1 PM: Seussical the Musical

All of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters come to life including Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz and a little boy with a big imagination, Jojo. This colorful cast of characters will delight audiences with their fantastical fun-filled adventures discovering life lessons in loyalty and the importance of family and friendship.

 

Friday, August 16 @ 1 PM: Randy Kaplan

In his songs for children and their families, Randy Kaplan blends American Roots, Country, Blues and comedic    storytelling. His show is sure to be loads of fun for the whole family!
