Weekend Planner: Cooking, Cookies and Candy Canes

From Hanukkah greats to some great Christmas cookie walks, there are plenty of tasty events coming up this weekend!

The holiday season is really cooking now. Celebrate by attending a class, favorite craft show or cookie walk. When all the activity is over, slow things down with a little reflection at .

All that and more during this weekend's holiday events:

  • Where:
  • When: 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday and Dec. 15
  • Cost: Cost is $18 per child, $30 for both and a 20 percent discount for siblings.
  • Why go: Come with your child, grandchild or another youngster to Aish for some creative cooking, crafts and stories. The class is taught by Lisa Feber.
  • What else: Suggested for ages 3 to 5. Email etolwin@­aish.­com or call 248-327-3579 for more information.


  • Where: 
  • When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
  • Cost: Admission and parking are free.
  • Why go: This annual craft show features handmade items including seasonal gifts, home decor, jewelry, stationary, children's items and much more! 
  • What else: The Berkley Junior Women's Club is hosting this event to benefit its community service programs.


  • Where:
  • When: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday
  • Cost: Breakfast: $12 for a family of four, $4 each additional member. Children younger than 3 eat free. Cookies are $6 a pound.
  • Why go: Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast with Santa, reindeer games, student art and the Christmas tree lot. Then, take a stroll down the cookie walk and purchase cookies for holiday gatherings!

  • When: Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday
  • Cost: $10
  • Why go: Save some time in the kitchen and head on down to the second annual event put on by the Berkley American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. For a $10 donation, you can fill a colorful tin with a variety of home-baked cookies and candies.

  • When: 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday
  • Cost: Free
  • Why go: Enjoy some quiet time of reflection during this busy Christmas season. Blue Christmas offers participants the chance to remember the losses they have encountered and reflect on God's presence in their lives during difficult times. The church will recall the mystery of Emmanuel and the love of God for us.
