Weekend Planner: Charity Events Make for Great Entertainment

Add a pancake breakfast, wine tasting and an evening with The Chapin Family to your weekend plans.

Here are three events happening around the area over the next few days, all of which support a great cause and offer fantastic entertainment and good eats (or drinks!)

The Chapin Family: Featuring a Tribute to Harry Chapin

On Friday evening, join The Chapin Family, Tom Chapin & Friends, Jen Chapin and The Chapin Sisters at the WCS Performing Arts Center in Sterling Heights to benefit Hope Center in Macomb — the largest client-choice food pantry in Macomb County.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. and includes a special taxi ride through the catalogue of songs that made Harry famous. He is remembered as a songwriter (with classics like "Cat’s in the Cradle," "Taxi" and "Circle") who did humanitarian work for anti-hunger agencies. His family continues on his work by raising funds for Hope Center in Macomb.

WCS Performing Arts Center is located at 12901 15 Mile Rd., Sterling Heights. Tickets cost $30-35 and more information can be found by calling 586-294-4673.

Pancake Breakfast

Start out your Saturday with an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at .

For just $4, breakfast will include the unlimited pancakes, a serving of sausage, juice, coffee, milk or tea. Families can eat for $12.

The money raised will benefit the parish youth group, helping to send them on a summer mission trip. Call 248-541-3742 for more information.

Paws for Life Wine Tasting

Support a local animal shelter while sampling food and wine at .

For $27.37, guests will receive tickets for a choice of five wines to taste and a variety of appetizers. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Paws for Life Rescue & Adoption. Vintner’s Cellar will also donate 10 percent of sales from bottles of wine purchased at the event.

It all begins at 6 p.m. and tickets should be reserved in advance online. Vintner’s Cellar of Royal Oak is located at 325 E. Fourth St., Royal Oak.
