Video: Berkley Honors Volunteers

The City Council has recognized three residents who received 2010 Michigan Recreation & Park Association awards.

This week at City Hall, the Berkley City Council recognized several volunteers who recently received prestigious 2010 Michigan Recreation & Park Association awards during a ceremony in Lansing.

The award recipients included:

  • Tom Cusick, who received the 2010 Margaret Whitehead Senior of the Year Award for Leadership. Cusick was honored for his work with the Berkley Parks & Recreation Department exercise group, his role in helping the city provide smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to seniors and his delivery of Meals on Wheels to those in need.
  • Bob LaFountain received the 2010 Youth Sports Volunteer of the Year Award. He was recognized for his decades of service with the Berkley Dads' Club, his role in the Parks & Recreation Department's recycling campaign at city parks and his role in the city's first WinterFest celebration. LaFountain was not present at the City Council meeting because he was busy – volunteering.
  • Karen Koerber and her daughter Brooke Holman of received the 2010 Community Service Award. The duo were honored for their contributions to the city's parks and ice arena, hosting an annual holiday party for seniors and their ongoing work with community organizations.
