Mr. Huntington Woods Crowned, Plans to Spread 'Joy and Awesomeness'

Corey Faulkner will represent the city in the Fourth of July parade; Ted Olds named runner-up.

The coveted Mr. Huntington Woods crown was bestowed Saturday evening upon Corey Faulkner, who still sported his sash several hours after winning the contest.

"I feel honored and excited," Faulkner said. "It's a title that has long been given to me and finally has been recognized."

During the past week, Faulkner and nine other finalists were challenged to answer a series of pageant questions on the Huntington Woods Parks & Recreation Facebook page

"Being born here is the obvious qualification to set myself apart from the crowd, plus I need to one up my second place finish in the greatest legs contest of 1987," Faulkner wrote in one response. "This is clearly the ne(x)t level!"

Faulkner and runner-up Ted Olds were honored Saturday during Family Night, which was held outside the and featured food, fun and tunes by Americana-country band Urban Prairie. The event was part of the city's Fourth of July celebration, which will culminate with a parade and fireworks display Monday.

"Ted Olds will fulfill Corey's duties if he is unable," said recreation supervisor Colette Nutton, who organized the pageant.

"No one could fill my shoes better," said a magnanimous Faulkner, who won not only the crown and sash, but also gift certificates and the right to ride in the 40th annual Fourth of July parade.

"I plan on repping the city at all of our local events and showing all of the children what volunteerism and stick-to-it-iveness will get you," Faulkner said.

He explained that as a kid, he spent a lot of time at the Recreation Center and his involvement with the facility that is at the heart of the community continues today.

What does the newly crowned Mr. Huntington Woods intend to accomplish in the coming year?

"I will spread the joy and awesomeness that got me here today," he vowed.
