Girl Scouts Spread Holiday Cheer

While many folks headed home or out to dinner after the in Berkley this weekend, Girl Scouts from put their holiday spirit to use by doing a good deed.

Fourteen members of Troop 41775, along with parents and grandparents, bundled off to the on Saturday night after walking in the parade to create fleece-tie blankets for patients at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.

"The Girl Scout Troop has always been very interested in helping other people," troop co-leader Tracy Shanley, who also serves as program coordinator at the rec center, wrote in an e-mail to Berkley Patch. "One of the projects that we have talked about in the last few years was making blankets for children who are sick at Children’s Hospital.

"At the same time, we also collected new crayons for the children in the hospital," Shanley wrote. "The troop held a crayon drive and asked family members and friends to donate crayons. We collected over 80 boxes of crayons."
