Clean the Parks Day Seeks Volunteers Sunday

Huntington Woods community event aims to spruce up the city for its Fourth of July festivities.

Grab your garden gloves and tools and get ready to participate in Clean the Parks Day on Sunday in Huntington Woods.

Volunteers are encouraged to join crews at , the and from 1 to 3 p.m. as they spruce up the city before its annual Fourth of July festivities. Mulch and yard waste bags will be provided, but residents are encouraged to bring their own gloves and tools.

Luckily, Mother Nature will be smiling on the spruce-up squad: The National Weather Service predicts Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high of 79 degrees.

In April, City Manager Alex Allie explained that cuts – including less-efficient services – had to be made to balance Huntington Woods' 2011-12 budget and that residents may notice the impact of having fewer staff to maintain city parks.

"It's visible, but it's not going to get much worse," Allie said.

He and the City Commission encouraged residents to help Huntington Woods ride out the lean times by pitching in during events such as Clean the Parks Day.
