Berkley High School Invites Public to Participate in Blood Drive

Schedule an appointment or stop by to make a donation between 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday.

Members of the public are invited to participate in a blood drive Monday at .

The event will be held between 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in the school's auditorium, according to American Red Cross spokeswoman Kelley DeLong.

"We take the last appointment at 1:45 p.m.," she wrote in an email to Berkley Patch. "We do our best to see walk-ins."

Donors may call 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767) to schedule an appointment. Those who can't make it Monday but still would like to give may visit redcrossblood, type in their ZIP code and find a list of nearby blood drives.

"We need 900 pints of blood per day to supply 43 local hospitals in southeast Michigan," DeLong wrote. "A donor can give every 56 days, and the pint of blood they give can help save three lives."

Donors who are 17 or older and in general good health can give blood; however, special weight and height requirements apply to students who are 19 and younger, DeLong wrote. American Red Cross staff members will determine who can give blood on site, she added.
