Your Guide to Fourth of July Festivities in Huntington Woods

Get the scoop on what's happening when and where Thursday during the city's annual celebration, which wraps up with fireworks at approximately 10:05 p.m. over Rackham Golf Course.

A week of festivities is underway in Huntington Woods as the city celebrates the Fourth of July.

Read on to find out what's happening Thursday.

Old-Fashioned Bake-Off

  • What: Bakers of all ages are encouraged to enter their breads, muffins, pastries, cookies, pies and cakes.
  • When: 9-10 a.m.
  • Where: Scotia Park
  • What else: Advance registration is  not required. Recipe must be included with entry. Call bakeoff chairman Rick Tripp at 248-399-8150 for more information.

42nd Annual July Fourth Parade

  • What: This year's theme is "Best of Huntington Woods."
  • When: 10 a.m.
  • Where: The parade starts at the Chase Bank on Woodward Avenue, heads down Salem/Nadine, turns right at Wyoming, left on Borgman and left onto Scotia before wrapping up at Scotia Park.
  • What else: The parade will go on rain or shine. Mayor Ron Gillham and "Uncle Sam" will honor civic award winners and Fourth of July contest winners immediately following the parade at Scotia Park. 

Hot Dog Roast

  • What: Lunch will include hot dogs, chips, pop/juice. Ice cream bars and Mystic Kettle Gourmet Kettle Corn also available for an additional charge.
  • When: 11 a.m.
  • Where: Scotia Park
  • What else: Proceeds benefit the city's July Fourth celebration fund.

Old-Fashioned Games and Races

  • What: Events will include relay races, pie eating, water balloon toss, the adult egg toss, sack races, tug-of-war and more. 
  • When: 1 p.m.
  • Where: Scotia Park
  • What else: The events are open to all ages.

Concert in the Park

Fireworks

  • What: The display caps a week of festivities in Huntington Woods.
  • When: Approximately 10:05 p.m.
  • Where: Spectators will set up lawn chairs and blankets along Ludlow Avenue ahead of the display over Rackham Golf Course.
  • What else: Parking will be restricted along Ludlow, Scotia and nearby streets, so visitors are encouraged to walk or ride their bikes to the celebration.
