Old Fashion Bake-Off Winners Take the Cake

Melanie Meretsky's 4th of July Flag Cake Pops were judged best overall entry Wednesday during the Fourth of July festivities at Scotia Park in Huntington Woods.

One of the most beloved Fourth of July traditions in Huntington Woods is the annual Old Fashion Bake-Off and the competition at was stiff this year with 43 entries.

Judges Julie Lask, Sue Brown and Travis Braun chose Melanie Meretsky's 4th of July Flag Cake Pops as the overall winner Wednesday. Entries included breads, muffins, pastries, cookies, pies and cakes in several age categories.

Kids, 12 and younger

  • First place: Sean McKenzie, Butterscotch Blondies  
  • Second place: Riley Stocki, Grandma's Fudge
  • Third place: Joli Stocki, Berry Parfait

Juniors, 13-20

  • First place: Sam Inloes, Cinnamon Roll Shaped Like Pretzels
  • Second place: Rachel Sabbath, 4th of July Apple Pie                       
  • Third place: Darby Meade, One Sparkler of a Cheese Cake 

Adults, 21 and older

  • First place: Mark Jacobs, Dulce Deleche Tart
  • Second place: Jane Hook, Lemon Cups
  • Third place: Katherine Apsey, Summer Berry Pie For The 4th of July
