Huntington Woods Celebrates Fourth of July (With Photos, Video)

"I think, after 42 years, we know how to do it," Mayor Ron Gillham tells the post-parade crowd assembled Thursday at Scotia Park.

The mood was festive and the weather cooperative Thursday during the 42nd annual Fourth of July celebration in Huntington Woods

Mayor Ron Gillham told the crowd assembled at Scotia Park following the parade Thursday that they embodied the weeklong event's theme of "The Best of Huntington Woods."

"I consider all of you folks to be right up there by the top of the list," he said, noting that Huntington Woods recently was ranked among the top 10 "Best Place(s) to Live for Suburbanites" in the United States.

"I think, after 42 years, we know how to do it," Gillham said of the parade, which he added has never been rained out.

The weather Thursday was overcast and seasonably warm, a welcome change from last year when sweltering heat dogged the parade and nasty storms forced the cancellation of all evening activities, except the fireworks, and left thousands of residents without power.

The fireworks Thursday were scheduled to go off at approximately 10:05 p.m. over Rackham Golf Course.

Gillham thanked the Huntington Woods Men's Club; the Run, Walk, BOOM!!! event committee; the Parks and Recreation Department; the Huntington Woods Aquatics Club; and all of the volunteers who contributed toward making the city's Fourth of July celebration a success.
