Huntington Woods Bake-Off Winners Take the Cake

Find out whose recipes won top honors Thursday in the annual Fourth of July contest.

Bakers of all ages whipped up their best breads, muffins, pastries, cookies, pies and cakes to enter Thursday in the Old-Fashioned Bake-Off during the city's Fourth of July celebration at Scotia Park.

There were 38 entries in three age categories, with Katherine Apsei's "Kath's Coconut Cake" taking the overall prize, according to bake-off chairman Rick Tripp.

Judges Julie Lask, Molly Tripp and Travis Braun were careful to take just a nibble of each entry so they could make it through all of the rich, tasty treats, Lask said.

"Every year, it gets better," Rick Tripp said. "I want to thank all of the bakers and we'll see you all again next year."
