Detour Around 12 Mile-Coolidge Construction Starts this Week

Starting Tuesday, traffic will be rerouted to major roads and Public Safety will patrol the area to enforce regulations.

After a , the intersection of 12 Mile and Coolidge in Berkley is expected to close Tuesday morning for a six-week project. 

Derrick Schueller, director of Public Works, confirmed the start date this week, saying that despite the initial delay, the project will still wrap up the week of Aug. 6.

The existing brick intersection will be replaced with 10-inch nonreinforced concrete.

Construction will shut down the intersection, but all .

“The posted detours will be on the surrounding arterial roads, including Woodward, 11 Mile, Greenfield and 13 Mile,” Schueller explained. These are the official routes as approved by the Road Commission for Oakland County and the Michigan Department of Transportation.

“All through traffic should follow the posted detours while local traffic can utilize 12 Mile and Coolidge to access businesses and homes."

While traffic is likely to increase in the residential areas around the construction project, will on on-hand to patrol the site and make sure regulations are followed, Schueller said. This will also help ensure that motorists are not cutting through business parking lots to avoid the detour routes.
