The Michigan Wolverines capped their college football season with a sweet, 23-20 victory over Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Tuesday night.

With the victory, U-M finished the 2011-12 campaign with an 11-2 record. This year’s Wolverines became the fifth team in school history to record an 11-win season.

Michael Rosenberg of the Detroit Free Press said that this was a special U-M team. Bob Wojnowski of the Detroit News said the Sugar Bowl triumph was a fitting end to the Wolverines’ season, and Kyle Meinke of annarbor.com wrote that the players got a kick out of the Sugar Bowl.

While Michigan achieved much in the first season under Brady Hoke, Bill Bender of the Sporting News said that now Hoke must maintain those high standards at U-M.

What did you think of the game? What do you think is in store for Year 2 of the Brady Hoke era? Let us know in the comments below.

I sure did watch so glad there was just one overtime. The State game was a real nail biter. I am so proud of all the players for U of M and for State. What a nice way for the seniors to leave this most exciting sport. Nothing like college football. I love all of you boys.

It is better to be lucky than good. I am a big M fan, but last night the Wolverines played poorly in almost every aspect of the game and the much better Virginia Tech team beat themselves. Also the officiating made several mistakes which cost Virginia Tech the game. Nevertheless, GO BLUE!

James my dear, Michigan also got some bad calls. I think we were both watching the same game. Virginia Teck is a great team I do agree. Both teams had some bad calls though. Have a good day James.

I guess the “No Reception, No Touchdown” call that went against VT in overtime (and really did cost VT the game) validates virtually the same call that went a against Michigan in the Iowa game. I guess it was a "Bad Call" in both games,
