Workshop Aims to Educate Families About Autism, Asperger's Syndrome

The Berkley School District invites all of its families to attend a multimedia presentation Wednesday about autism and Asperger's syndrome.

Maureen Ziegler, an autism education and intervention specialist with the Statewide Autism Resources & Training program will speak during the workshop, which will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Berkley High School auditorium.

START is a state-funded project designed to provide training and technical assistance to educators in Michigan that serve students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, according to its website.

Ziegler will be joined Wednesday by Nic Farquhar, who serves as ASD coordinator for the Berkley School District.

"If your child has a classmate with autism and/or Asperger's syndrome, you are strongly encouraged to attend this informative workshop," says an e-mail sent from the district to parents. "Many parents have asked for more information about autism and Asperger's syndrome, and this evening workshop is an opportunity to come and learn how children learn alongside a student with autism."
