Whiz Kid Wins Tri-Community Coalition Scholarship

The Berkley High School senior will receive the award during the group's golf fundraiser June 6 at Links of Novi.

Accomplishment: The Tri-Community Coalition awarded Megan a $1,000 scholarship after she completed a project under the theme "Why I Am Drug and Alcohol Free," participated in the Y.O.U. (Young, Optimistic and United) Youth Coalition and shared her project with the community. 

"Megan submitted a fantastic video about what it means to her to be drug- and alcohol-free," TCC program director Deanna Tocco said. "She was the unanimous choice as the winner from Berkley High School."

Megan will receive her scholarship during The Tri-Community Coalition's 13th annual golf outing, Swinging for Scholarships and More, at 9 a.m. June 6 at Links of Novi. The event will raise funds for the nonprofit organization, which works to prevent substance abuse and promote healthful decision-making among young people in the . Key to awesomeness: Megan "has been actively involved in the Y.O.U. group this year as well as (in) the Berkley High School marching band, National Honor Society and the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) group," Tocco said. "She has done all of this while also maintaining a 3.9 grade-point average. ... We are incredibly proud of Megan and happy to call her a member of the Y.O.U. Congratulations, Megan!"

Megan will attend the University of Michigan in the fall, where she plans to pursue a major in neuroscience.
