Viewfinder: Berkley Welcomes New Band Director

Students and parents shared ice cream with 's new band director during a meet-and-greet event Monday evening on the school's front lawn.

Alan Posner, 25, who will serve as director of bands at BHS and , got started this week by holding rehearsals Wednesday and Thursday for student leaders and freshmen, respectively.

On Monday, dozens of students and parents, as well as Superintendent Michael Simeck, gathered to welcome him and pick up information about the 2011-2012 music program.

"This is a really tremendous job," said the University of Michigan graduate, who comes to Berkley from a position with Suttons Bay Schools in northern Michigan. "Not only is it a good program to come into, it also has the potential to be one of the best programs in the state."

Posner, who has family in Huntington Woods and attended Andover High School in Bloomfield Hills, said he is excited to be back in the area.

"I'm from here and I really wanted to come back home to where I grew up and be part of the community," he said.
