Preview: Board of Education Meeting

The agenda includes recognition of outgoing Berkley Mayor Marilyn Stephan's service and consideration of initiating the process to launch a Chinese foreign exchange program.

The Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Avery Center in Oak Park.

The agenda includes the following items.

  • The Board will recognize Berkley Mayor Marilyn Stephan, who will publicly hand over the city's reins to during the City Council meeting Nov. 21. Stephan was elected mayor in 2005 and before that served on council since 1999, according to Berkley City Clerk Cheryl Printz. Stephan also taught for many years in the Berkley School District and is involved with the Friends of the Library in Berkley.
  • Presentations will be delivered on the district's community survey results, tenure and evaluation law changes, curriculum at Tyndall/Avery centers and the budget.
  • The Board will consider initiating the process to launch a Chinese foreign exchange program (see attached PDF). Questions that were raised during a Nov. 7 study session (see attached PDF) have been addressed, so the Board could choose to act on the proposal Monday night or defer action until December.
  • A vote will be taken on consent agenda items.

The meeting is open to the public and there will be opportunities for citizen comments.
