Preview: Board of Education Meeting

The 2011-2012 budget and personnel list are on tonight's agenda.

The Board of Education meets at 7 tonight at the Avery Center in Oak Park and the agenda includes action on the 2011-2012 budget and staffing.

  • The board will begin by recognizing top scholars, athletes and student board representatives. BSD retirees and departing Board of Education member Ryan O'Gorman also will be recognized.
  • The board will receive curriculum and budget negotiations reports, as well as news from its student representative and the Berkley Education Association. Legislative, committee and conference reports also will be presented.
  • Action items on the agenda include approval of the 2011-2012 budget (see attached PDF) and personnel list.

, BSD Superintendent of Finance, Facilities and Operations Larry Gallagher said the reduction of full-time employees next year may be 18.98, as opposed to the 45 who received layoff notices.  Gallagher cautioned that the budget process is ongoing and staffing levels still could change.

The reductions come as the district works to balance an estimated $4.8 million budget shortfall for 2011-2012, in part due to the state cuts.
