Moms Talk: Do You Have Back-to-School Blues or Will You Be Happy When Summer Vacation Ends?

When your kids head back to class next week, will it be a relief or will you miss having them around?

In (dads, you're welcome to chime in, too!), we asked what you think about Sesame Street's recent decision not to heed requests to have Bert and Ernie, popular male roommates on the children's show, get married.

While three of you recommended the column on Facebook, we didn't receive any responses.

So, this week, we move on to a new question: How are you feeling about having your kids head back to school? Is it a relief? Will you miss them? A little bit of both? How will their return to school impact your family's schedule – especially if you have two working parents or a single parent? Stay-at-home parents, what will you do with all that extra time?

I am always ready for back-to-school for everyone, me and my kids. Don't get me wrong, I love summer. As a teacher, I love spending my summers with my kids. Yet, I do miss the routine. Although, our schedules do get hectic with school, sports, work, we, as a family, seem to make more of an effort to spend quality time together when we are working within our routine. The one aspect of summer I will miss the most: waking up before the rest of the house, sipping my morning coffee, and getting my work done before the day begins.

I feel a little sad this year, as my youngest will be starting kindergarten and I can't believe he's old enough to start elementary school. That time went by FAST! But more so, I am excited to see what he learns and how he will do. He is ready. And like Libby, I REALLY miss the routine of the school year. The kids do so much better with the structure a school day brings. And frankly, so do I!
