Have You Thanked a Board of Education Member Lately?

The Berkley School District is among hundreds of districts throughout Michigan to recognize January as School Board Recognition Month.

The Berkley School District is among 552 local and 56 intermediate school districts throughout Michigan to recognize January as School Board Recognition Month.

To mark the occasion, each member of the BSD Board of Education received a scarf during the board's Jan. 14 meeting at the Avery Center in Oak Park.

The board's role is to develop and monitor educational policies, approve goals and curriculum, oversee the budget and represent the community in matters affecting education, according to the district's website.

"Sometimes people come to these meetings ... and they don't understand all the work you do behind the scenes," BSD Superintendent Dennis McDavid said, adding that Board of Education members have been challenged to solve budget and curriculum issues and do more with less.

Say thanks!
