Berkley Schools Closed Tuesday Because of Bitter Cold – with Some Exceptions

Tyndall Year-Round school will start late, and its Kids Zone Latchkey program will be available for a fee for parents scrambling for child-care options.

Berkley Public Schools will be closed Tuesday due to the bitterly cold wind chill temperatures forecast for southeast Michigan.

The school closure includes the Avery School Year program, according to a notice on the school web site, but does not include the Tyndall Year-Round program. Classes will be in session, with a late start, and hours will be 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

The Kids Zone Latchkey drop-in program will be available for a fee.

Kindergarten registration hours Tuesday are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Avery administration center.

The Arctic cold temperatures are expected to persist through Wednesday morning. There’s no word yet on whether school will be in session Wednesday.

Oakland County issued a statement Monday reminding residents to dress in layers if they must be outdoors, not to keep their pets outdoors for any extended periods of time, maintain vehicle gas tanks over half filled, keep emergency kits and blankets in vehicles, and ensure that cell phones are fully charged when traveling.
