The honor comes for the fifth year in a row.

“We are very proud of our students, teachers, parents, and our community in continuously achieving this national ranking,” he said.

To be eligible for this recognition, each school must complete a survey from Newsweek requesting specific data from the 2010-11 academic year. Essentially, the list ranks schools on their abilities to produce "college-ready grads," according to its high school report card.

In all, more than 2,300 schools were assessed to produce the final list of the top 1,000 schools this year.

Berkley High School came in at No. 646 on the list and was among several other area high schools, including Troy and Athens high schools in Troy, West Bloomfield High School, Andover High School in Bloomfield Hills, as well as  Wilie E. Groves and Seaholm high schools in Birmingham.
