The Berkley High School marching band recently scored a victory off the field: Fans helped the program win $1,000 in the My TV20 “Battle of the Bands” Bracket Challenge.

Berkley received more votes than Rochester Adams High School in the final round after besting Sterling Heights, Allen Park and Stevenson for the title of Metro Detroit’s most-talented high school marching band in the online contest held this fall.

BHS marching band director Alan Posner said the band may use its prize money to subsidize a trip to New York in the spring, to buy a drum major podium, to start a color guard or to purchase new instruments.

"I would personally like to thank the Berkley community and all of its supporters for feverishly clicking away on their computers to help us win!" Posner said. "This is just further proof of how great a community Berkley is and how much we support the arts."
