UPDATED: House Demolished to Make Way for Vinsetta Garage Parking

The Berkley City Council passed an ordinance this week to rezone the property at 1010 Eaton from single-family residential district to parking district; a site plan for the lot will need to go before the Planning Commission and receive council approval.

The home at 1010 Eaton has been demolished to make way for a small parking lot after the Berkley City Council approved an ordinance this week that would rezone the piece of property owned by Vinsetta Garage.

The property was rezoned from single-family residential district to parking district. The triangular property is bordered by an alley, an apartment building and a residence. The second reading was an item on the council's consent agenda Monday and passed with no further discussion.

The Planning Commission held a public hearing – to which the property's neighbors were invited – on Sept. 25 and only one resident, who was in favor of the rezoning, spoke, City Planner Amy Vansen said during the first reading of the ordinance on Oct. 1.

Vansen said the parking lot site plan still will need to go before the Planning Commission and receive City Council approval.

"But they certainly could proceed with demolition of the home at any point and get the area prepped and ready to go," she said.
