Preview: Berkley City Council to Hear from Citizen's Committee on Headlee Override

The panel was created to assess the city's financial situation and an outlook summary will presented at tonight's meeting.

The Berkley City Council meets today at 7 p.m. at .

City officials will hold a work session this evening to discuss the Headlee override. Council will receive a final report and recommendation from the 2012 Berkley Citizen’s Committee that was formed to assess Berkley’s financial condition earlier this year.

The committee suggested a Headlee override of 3 mills to bring before Berkley voters later this year. At tonight’s meeting, Council will vote on the resolution calling for a millage proposal to be placed on the Aug. 7 ballot after a summary report on the city finances and a bond counsel presentation.

While this item is one of the biggest topics on the agenda, a few other topics will be covered beforehand. Here’s a look at other matters to be discussed:

  • Matter of approving a proclamation to name May 12 as Berkley History Month and celebrating the 80th anniversary of Berkley's designation as a city.
  • Council will also vote to celebrate the 140th anniversary of Arbor Day and to designate the week of May 13-19 as Arbor Week.
  • Approval of a resolution recognizing Telcom Credit Union.
  • Approval for Commercial Climate Controls Corp to complete HVAC work at the Community Center in an amount not to exceed $13,716.
