City Council Preview: Berkley Intersection Construction, Tennis Court Resurfacing

The meeting will take place starting at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

When the Berkley City Council meets Monday night, it is expected approve the .

The project will tentatively begin in June and take around six weeks to complete, according to officials at a recent meeting.

City Manager Jane Bais-DiSessa led the to hear concerns from local residents and business owners who will be directly impacted by the project. The goal, she explained, is to keep business running smoothly, despite the detours around the intersection this summer.

Council is to vote on awarding the contract to Florence Cement Co. in Mt. Clementts and Hubbell, Roth & Clark engineering firm in Bloomfield Hills. The total expenditure for the project is just more than $382,000.

Other items on Monday's agenda include:

  • authorizing the Bais-DiSessa to execute a Uniform Video Service Local Franchise Agreement between the Berkley and Comcast of the South Inc., a Colorado corporation doing business as Comcast.
  • Awarding a bid for tennis court resurfacing work at Community Park to Goddard Coatings. The budget for this project is just more than $35,100.
  • Council will also discuss reappointing Bais-DiSessa as Berkley’s representative and appoint Public Works Director Derrick Schueller as the alternate representative to the Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority (SOCRRA) Board of Trustees.
  • Derrick Schueller is also expected to be appointed as Berkley’s representative to the Southeastern Oakland County Water Authority (SOCWA) Board of Trustees. Finance Director David Sabuda would serve as the alternate representative.
  • discuss participating in the Economic Vitality Incentive Program (EVIP) grant awarded to the city of Pleasant Ridge for the evaluation of police, fire and EMS services and alternative service delivery options between the cities of Berkley, Huntington Woods and Pleasant Ridge.
