Preview: Berkley City Council to Discuss CruiseFest Gift, Public Safety Contract and More

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall.

The Berkley City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at and has a full agenda.

Among the items that will be discussed are the following:

  • Accepting a gift from DTE Energy for the , which will be held Aug. 17. More information on the city's pre-Woodward Dream Cruise classic car parade is available on the event's Facebook page.
  • Approving a contract to retain Deputy Director Robert North from July 17 through July 16, 2013.
  • Approving applications submitted by , , , and Forgotten Harvest/ for temporary authorization of outdoor alcohol sales, subject to the approval of the Liquor Control Commission.
  • Authorizing City Manager Jane Bais-DiSessa and the Historical Committee to enter an agreement with Arcadia Publishing for the publication of a book entitled Berkley, Michigan. Proceeds from the book's sale will help support the Historical Committee’s mission to preserve and promote Berkley's history.

The council also will hold a work session to discuss a proposed fireworks ordinance in light of a new state law that says municipalities cannot regulate use on federal holidays or the day right before and after. A number of Metro Detroit communities have enacted or are considering ordinances that would limit fireworks use, including the following:

The meeting is open to the public and there will be opportunities for citizen comments. It also is available to view live on the city's website.
