Michigan Secretary of State to Waive Late Fees
Statewide computer problem prevents branch offices from processing business transactions.
The Michigan Secretary of State's Office announced Thursday that it will waive late fees for customers who have been unable to complete business transactions due to a computer problem that began affecting branch offices Wednesday.
The Department of Technology, Management and Budget is working to resolve what it deemed "technology failures" that resulted in the statewide computer problems. Other state departments including Corrections, Treasury, Community Health and Human Services, also have been impacted.
Secretary of State branch offices remain open, but citizens who visit these locations will not be able to conduct business transactions until further notice.

The DTMB said no time estimate is available for restoration.
"We will do everything we can to assist our customers," said a notice by Michigan Secretary of State spokesman Randall Thompson on the agency's website, which added that the state's computer problem has shut down operations at all 131 branch offices, as well as online transactions. "We have also alerted law enforcement authorities that customers have been unable to renew tabs and driver's licenses."
