Local Candidates Line up for Aug. 7 Ballot
Voters will choose for Oakland County Commission, 9th U.S. Congressional District and state's 27th District.
With Tuesday's 4 p.m. filing deadline come and gone, it's clear the Aug. 7 ballot will feature a couple of tightly contested elections in Berkley, Huntington Woods and the rest of southern Oakland County.
18th District, Oakland County Commission
The election to represent the 18th District for Oakland County Commission will be a battle of political allies, with Helaine Zack of Huntington Woods facing Craig Covey of Ferndale. The Democrats were forced into a faceoff for the two-year term when the district lines were redrawn in a heated partisan fight that was decided by the Michigan Court of Appeals.
Oakland County Executive
Incumbent L. Brooks Patterson faces a challenge from Republian E. Wadsworth Sherrod of West Bloomfield and Democrat Kevin Howley of Huntington Woods.

Oakland County Treasurer
Rep. Marty Knollenberg of Troy vies for the job with Democrat Andy Meisner of Huntington Woods.
27th District
In the 27th District race, state Rep. Ellen Cogen Lipton (D-Huntington Woods) has a challenger in Andrew Robert Cissell of Ferndale. The winner will go up against Ezra Drissman, a Republican from Oak Park, in November.

9th Congressional District
For the 9th Congressional District, which includes Berkley and Huntington Woods, incumbent U.S. Rep. Sander Levin (D-Royal Oak) since 1983, faces a challenge from Don Volaric, a Republican and founder of a Clinton Township health insurance agency, and Greg Dildilian, a Republican from Royal Oak and founder of Pinecone Conservatives.
