Berkley Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting

The city of Berkley was recently recognized for excellence in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The recognition came from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) and Fitch Ratings, according to a recent press release from the city.

The GFOA awarded the city a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2012 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, the release states.

Fitch Ratings recently affirmed the city's AA bond rating, which is based on factors such as sound financial management by city leaders.

City Manager Jane Bais-DiSessa said in the release that she was pleased that Berkley was recognized by the two organizations.

“Our job is to manage the City’s resources in a way that attracts residents and businesses. Being responsible, transparent and accountable is very important. Thanks to the hard work of our Finance Director David Sabuda and his staff, we can say that Berkley’s finances are in order," she said.

“We’re fortunate to have sound leadership here in the City of Berkley," Berkley Mayor Phil O’Dwyer said in the release. "Our City Manager is hands on in every aspect of City operations and she runs a tight ship. I am grateful for the dedication and efforts of every department head and employee who contributed to these achievements."
