Berkley DDA to Vote Jan. 18 on Funding for 12 Mile-Coolidge Makeover

The Berkley City Council approved a 2011-2012 fiscal year budget amendment Monday night that provides $150,000 for the project; the DDA would have to pay for the remaining 60 percent of the estimated $375,000 cost.

The Berkley Downtown Development Authority will meet at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 18 to vote on funding an overhaul of the Coolidge Highway and 12 Mile Road intersection that will cost an estimated $375,000.

The meeting, which is open to the public and will be held in the second floor conference room of the Building, originally was set for Wednesday but was moved to Jan. 18 to accommodate scheduling conflicts, according to DDA board chairman Alan Semonian.

"We can afford to do this, at least right now," City Manager Jane Bais-DiSessa said. "It will have a major impact on road work in the future."
